Couples Cruising

Honest advice on romantic sailings, honeymoons, anniversary trips, and everything in between.

A cruise might be the most romantic vacation you haven't booked yet.

Think about it. You wake up in a different place every morning. Someone else cooks every meal, makes the bed, and handles the dishes. You've got specialty restaurants, sunset cocktails, spa days, and a private beach club if you want one — all without repacking a single suitcase or navigating another airport together.

I'm a travel advisor who books a lot of couples trips, and the feedback I get back is almost always the same: they didn't realize how good it would be. The combination of zero logistics stress and constant novelty is genuinely hard to beat for a romantic vacation.

Whether you're planning a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, or just want a trip that feels like a real escape for two — this is where I put everything you need. What's worth splurging on, what's overhyped, and exactly how to get the most out of it.

You don't need to book the most expensive cabin or the fanciest cruise line to have an incredible couples trip. A lot of what makes a cruise romantic is in the details — the right ship, the right add-ons, and knowing which upgrades are actually worth it. That's what I'm here to help with.

Planning a trip for two and not sure where to start?

5 things I'd book on every couples cruise

  • The main dining room is great, but for a couples trip I always budget for at least one specialty dinner. Somewhere like Celebrity's Eden or Royal Caribbean's Hooked changes the whole feel of an evening. You don't need to do it every night — once or twice is enough to make the trip feel elevated.

  • Port days at a private island are significantly better when you're not fighting a crowd. Royal Caribbean's Hideaway Beach at CocoCay is 18+ only, has its own bars, its own beach, and a completely different vibe from the main island. Worth every penny on a couples trip.

  • This one's practical but it matters. Most cruise lines require both adults in a cabin to purchase the same package, so plan for it. The freedom of not tracking a tab the whole trip is genuinely romantic in the most unsexy way possible.

  • I'm actually on the record saying balconies are overrated for solo travel — but for couples? Different story. Morning coffee watching the ocean together before the ship gets busy is one of those experiences people talk about for years.

  • Couples trips have a tendency to get over-scheduled. Build in at least one sea day where the plan is literally nothing. Pool, food, maybe a spa treatment, whatever sounds good. The best couples cruise memories usually happen on the unplanned days.
